Senior Project 2021:

CROSSROADS

How can we combine our interests in drawing, creative writing, and photography to make a visually engaging book that incorporates fiction/poetry with Rhode Island's history and nature?

As our final two week high school senior project, my friend Emily and I explored some of Rhode Island's most historical and naturally beautiful sites and documented them in a our own distinct ways—Emily as a poet and storyteller, and myself as a painter and photographer. Our final product is a book that captures each location through writing and mixed media art, which can be found at the link below.

CHARCOAL & GOUCHE: A SERIES OF 3

In my first semester of college, I was able to take a studio drawing course—a dream of mine for a long time. I learned the basics of using charcoal, a medium I never had the chance to explore before. I've always preferred using pencils for smaller-scale works, but I really enjoyed this chance to work on larger paper and from live observation rather than photos or images. These three works are my final projects from the semester, using a blend of charcoal and gouache (also a new medium for me). I decided to focus on hands, a portrait, and then a figure study as these are three subjects I learned to draw from observation over the course of the class.

OBSERVATIONAL SKETCHES

More drawing pieces, most from my first experience in a studio course!

PAINT & PHOTOGRAPHS

Explorations from my time taking AP art — a mixture of acrylic and B & W film photography.
